Virginia-1 DMAT Celebrates 10th Anniversary
Saying it is a “go to” team, the director of the National Disaster Medical System congratulated the Virginia-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (VA-1 DMAT) during its 10th anniversary dinner and awards program on February 8, 2014.
Andrew L. Garrett, MD, MPH provided the keynote address during the event held in Williamsburg. Garrett has been director of the National Disaster Medical System, part of the federal Department of Health and Human Services, since 2012.
The 10th anniversary event recognized current and past team personnel. Ten year “charter” members received a laser etched glass trophy.

Team Training Provides Hands-On Opportunities
Thanks to our training officers, other instructors and those who attended, our April 16, 2013 team training was a success. Under sunny skies at the Chesapeake Fire Department warehouse, about 35 team members practiced tent set up and take down, radio communications and safe patient movement.
